Morganite
Morganite is the pink to orange-pink variety of beryl, colored by manganese. It is almost always heat-treated to improve its pink, and it is more likely to chip than harder gems, so a protective setting suits it.

What it is
Morganite is beryl, the same mineral as emerald and aquamarine. Its pink to orange-pink comes from manganese.
Morganite is almost always heat-treated to improve its pink. Keep it away from heat.
Why people love it
The color: a pink to orange-pink.
Trade-offs
Morganite is 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale and more likely to chip than harder gems. For a ring worn every day, a protective setting such as a bezel or a halo guards it.
Ask Sara how a stone has been treated, and whether it is natural or laboratory-grown.
Who it suits
Anyone drawn to pink, in a bezel or a halo for daily wear, on a ring that is taken off for hard work.
Sizes
The Design Studio sets a morganite from 4 to 12 mm long in any of its shapes and shows its millimeters and an approximate weight. By the studio’s figures, morganite (specific gravity 2.8) weighs about four fifths of a diamond (3.52) of the same size.
What affects the cost
What moves a morganite’s cost: its size, its color and clarity, any treatment, and whether it is natural or laboratory-grown; then the metal and the setting. Sara quotes the finished piece after a consultation.

Care
Warm soapy water and a soft brush are safe. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually fine, unless the stone has liquid inclusions or fractures. Keep it away from heat. Pacific Jewel rings come back to Sara for a clean and an inspection whenever you like.

Is morganite related to emerald?
