About the Jeweler

Sara Lundquist

Sara Lundquist holds a rare and prestigious distinction: she is a GIA Graduate Jeweler and a GIA Jewelry Design & Technology diploma holder. The Gemological Institute of America is the world's foremost authority on diamonds, colored stones, and pearls — and earning both credentials means something profound about the work Sara brings to every piece.

Her Graduate Jeweler training involved 28 weeks of intensive bench work: sawing, piercing, forging, advanced torch techniques, soldering, annealing, brazing, gemstone setting, casting, wax carving, laser welding, metallurgy, and hand engraving. Her hands know every fundamental of traditional jewelry making.

Her Design & Technology diploma represents mastery of the digital side: CAD design in Rhinoceros and ZBrush, 3D printing and prototyping, photorealistic rendering, design principles (texture, shape, form, balance, negative space, color), and the full spectrum of modern manufacturing processes.

Having both means Sara can take your vision and translate it into a photorealistic digital rendering, show you exactly what your ring will look like from every angle, refine it in real time, and then oversee the entire production process with expert knowledge of what's actually possible. She's not a designer who passes files to someone else — she understands every single step of making jewelry because she was trained to do it all herself. That's what makes her collaborative process so intimate and interactive.

Sara founded Pacific Jewel in 2019 from her home studio in San Clemente, California. What began as handmade pieces on Etsy has grown into a thriving custom fine jewelry business. She's created over 2,500 pieces — from delicate everyday rings to show-stopping engagement rings set with rare gemstones. With every piece, she brings passion, precision, and the rare combination of old-world craft and modern design.

The Process

Where Design Meets Craft

Sara's dual GIA training means she bridges the gap between vision and reality. For custom fine jewelry, she works directly with you from concept to completion.

The Custom Fine Jewelry Process

Sara designs your piece in Rhinoceros 3D, creating a digital model she can render photorealistically from every angle. You see exactly what your ring will look like. Revisions happen in real time — adjusting stone size, band width, setting style, proportions. Once the design is perfect, Sara oversees the casting process and then sets every gemstone by hand at her bench, polishing the finished piece until it's flawless.

The Handmade Collection

Every piece in our everyday Pacific Jewel collection is handcrafted to order at Sara's bench. You can be part of as much or as little of the making process as you'd like — from watching a livestream of your ring being forged to taking an in-person workshop and soldering it yourself.
